No Mega Millions winner, jackpot now $970M (see smaller prizes won in NY)

No one won the $865 million Mega Millions jackpot in Tuesday’s drawing. The winning numbers were 10, 19, 26, 28 and 50. The Mega Ball was 16 with a Megaplier of 2X.

No tickets matched all six numbers, so the jackpot is now $970 million — the third largest in U.S. lottery history, with the potential to get even bigger before the next drawing. The Mega Millions prize will offer a cash option of at least $716.3 million.

Meanwhile, the Powerball is up to $730 million for Wednesday night’s drawing.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be Friday night.

But don’t throw out your tickets from Tuesday just yet: Some semi-lucky lotto players in New York also won smaller prizes totaling over $2 million.

Second prize: $1 million

Mega Millions players can win $1 million by matching all five numbers without the Mega Ball. Nine such tickets were sold in California, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Mississippi, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington.

Third prize: $10,000

11 tickets in New York state matched four numbers + the Mega Ball for a $10,000 prize.

Fourth prize: $500

336 tickets in NY matched four of five numbers for a $500 prize.

Fifth prize: $200

817 tickets in NY matched three numbers + Mega Ball for a $200 prize.

Sixth & seventh prizes: $10

20,662 tickets in NY matched three of five numbers for a $10 prize. Another 15,289 tickets matched two numbers + Mega Ball for $10.

Eighth prize: $4

110,485 tickets in NY matched one number + Mega Ball for a $4 prize.

Ninth prizes: $2

260,711 tickets got the Mega Ball only for a $2 prize.

Mega Millions Megaplier second prize: $2 million

2 winning tickets sold in Florida matched all five numbers for a $2 million Megaplier prize.

The Mega Millions multiplier for Tuesday’s drawing was X2. Megaplier participants must pay an additional $1 at the time of purchase of their Mega Millions tickets.

Megaplier third prize: $20,000

One ticket in New York matched four numbers + the Mega Ball for a $20,000 prize.

Megaplier fourth prize: $1,000

25 tickets in NY matched four of five numbers for a $1,000 prize.

Megaplier fifth prize: $400

58 tickets matched three numbers + Mega Ball for a $400 prize.

Megaplier sixth and seventh prizes: $20

1,489 tickets in NY matched three of five numbers for a $20 prize. Another 962 tickets matched two numbers + Mega Ball for $20.

Megaplier eighth prize: $8

7,075 tickets in NY matched one number + Mega Ball for a $8 prize.

Megaplier ninth prize: $4

16,243 tickets got the Mega Ball only for a $4 prize.

What are the odds of winning lottery?

The odds of winning the Mega Millions grand prize are 1 in 302,575,350. The Powerball odds are 1 in 292,201,338. (The odds of winning both is roughly 1 in 75 quadrillion (or 75,000,000,000,000,000).

You have a greater chance of being struck by lightning, which is 1 in 1,101,000.

Mega Millions players pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers — five different numbers from 1 to 70 and one number from 1 to 25 — or select Easy Pick. A player wins the jackpot by matching all six winning numbers in a drawing.

Jackpot winners can choose to receive 30 annual payments, each five percent higher than the last, or a lump-sum payment.

Next drawing

The next Mega Millions drawing that could make a lucky winner fabulously wealthy will be Friday, Jan. 22, at 10:59 p.m. The jackpot will be $970 million, but could climb higher.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets cost $2 each.

Over 400,000 Mega Millions Winning Tickets Sold in New York

People from the Hudson Valley and across New York have recently won nearly $4 million playing the lottery.

Tuesday’s drawing of the Mega Millions produced no jackpot winner. With no big winner, the jackpot continues to soar. The upcoming Mega Millions jackpot will be around $970 million with a cash option of around $715 million.

The winning numbers for Tuesday’s Mega Millions were 10-19-26-28-50 with a Mega Ball of 16 and a Megaplier of 2X. While no one claimed the big prize, a number of New Yorkers are a little richer today.

Thirteen New Yorkers won a “third prize” of $10,000, 336 Empire State residents won a “fourth prize of $500, 817 New Yorkers are taking home $200 for a “fifth prize,” 35,951 tickets sold in New York State won $10, 110,485 tickets sold in the Empire State are $4 winners while 260,711 won $2.

A $1 million “second prize” for Saturday’s Powerball was sold in Rockland County. The ticket was sold at the Gulf Mart on Central Avenue in Pearl River, the New York State lottery reports.

The winning numbers for Saturday’s Powerball drawing were 14-20-39-65-67 with a Powerball of 02, according to the New York State Lottery website. The ticket hit on all five numbers but not the Powerball.

A $2 million lotto ticket for a “second prize” was also sold in Orange County, according to the New York lottery. That ticket was for the Tuesday, Jan. 5 Mega Millions drawing.

The winning numbers for Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing were 20-43-51-55-57, with Mega Ball 4, according to the New York State Lottery website.

The $2 million lotto ticket was sold at the Citgo Mart located at 28 Carpenter Avenue in Middletown, according to the state’s lottery website. The winning ticket was a Quick Pick, officials say.
